Khloe Kardashian filed for divorce from Lamar Odom on Friday, December 13th and the two ex-lovers are basically topping the list of all the shocking celebrity splits of 2013.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Khloe cited “irreconcilable differences” as the main reason for pulling the trigger on her 4-year marriage to the NBA player, joining more stars like Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Russell Brand, Katy Perry, Heidi Klum, Seal, and more who have all ended their turbulent marriage with that term.
What is “irreconcilable differences,” really? We hear about the term more than we’d like to as the cause of infamous Hollywood break-ups throughout the news on-air and on-line, but do we really understand its meaning? Could different opinions on, say, favorite candy, count?
Sounds ridiculous and a bit dramatic, but the answer actually depends on the couple! In its most basic sense, ‘irreconcilable differences’ could mean that the spouses simply cannot agree on issues in their marriage or family. The differences must be so strong that it makes the marriage beyond saving. Not even Superman could save it. In most states, both partners have to agree and sign off on the papers stating that the divorce is because of irreconcilable differences of opinion.
Of course, a partnership going downhill and into the barrel of divorce over something as unimportant as candy would be outrageous, but that’s where the maturity of the partners comes into play! More likely reasons would be differences on how to raise and discipline children, or religious differences, etc.
Some say that the silver and big screen fantasizes relationships and make them seem like they’re a walk in the park with full rewards and no work involved! Sounds nice! What do you think? Did Khloe and Lamar get stuck in that fantasy and throw in the towel too soon?
Were the issues and differences between Khloe and Lamar definitely irreconcilable? Or were they only challenges to work through just as any other obstacle in normal life?
