The 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards is coming up, and we’ve got the full list of nominations, including some of the best reactions from celebrities!
Mark your calendars for January 18th! The 20th Annual SAG Awards will take place at the Shrine Exposition Center in LA, honoring the best performances in film and TV.
Without further ado, our PopStop TV News team is rounding up nominations and predictions for some of the key categories.
For “Outstanding performance by a male actor in a motion picture,” we have Bruce Dern for “Nebraska,” Tom Hanks for “Captain Phillips,” Matthew McConaughey for “Dallas Buyers Club,” Chiwetel Ejiofor for “12 Years A Slave” and Forest Whitaker for “Lee Daniels’ The Butler.
Although Matthew McConaughey and Forest Whitaker are industry favorites, Tom Hanks seems to have this one on lock. “Captain Phillips” is also up for a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture (Drama)!
For “Outstanding performance by a female actor in a motion picture,” there’s Cate Blanchett from “Blue Jasmine,” Sandra Bullock from “Gravity,” Judi Dench from “Philomena,” Meryl Streep from “August: Osage County” and Emma Thompson from “Saving Mr. Banks.”
It’s a close call between Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep but our bet is Sandra! “Gravity” was both Sandra’s and George Clooney’s biggest opening ever. Plus, this is Sandra’s first role in a major sci-fi film!
Sandra dished on her nomination, “Had I known being locked in a light box and dangling from a ceiling for hours on end would land me in the company of these extraordinary women, I would have done it years ago!”
For “Outstanding performance by a male actor in a drama series,” we have Steve Buscemi from “Boardwalk Empire,” Bryan Cranston from “Breaking Bad,” Jeff Daniels from “The Newsroom.” Peter Dinklage from “Game of Thrones” and Kevin Spacey from “House Of Cards.”
Considering “Breaking Bad” already ended, and the series finale shattered records with over 10.3 million viewers, Byan Cranston will take home the prize.
For “Outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series,” there’s Claire Danes from “Homeland,” Anna Gunn from “Breaking Bad,” Jessica Lange from “American Horror Story: Coven,” Maggie Smith from “Downton Abbey” and Kerry Washington from “Scandal!”
Our bet is on Kerry Washington! “Scandal” not only earned Kerry an Emmy nomination, but now, she can thank the ABC hit-show for another one!
Kerry Washington reacted to her nod on Twitter, writing, “I am truly grateful and proud to be a member of SAG/AFTRA and to be acknowledged by my peers in this way is an enormous honor.”
For “Outstanding performance by a male actor in a supporting role,” we newcomer Barkhad Abdi from “Captain Phillips,” Daniel Bruhl from “Rush,” Michael Fassbender from “12 Years a Slave,” James Gandolfini from “Enough Said,” and Jared Leto from “Dallas Buyers Club.”
Our money is on Jared Leto! The “Do Or Die” singer went all out playing a transgender woman who is HIV-positive, struggling with drug addiction. Look at the makeup and the outfit! Full commitment right there.
And last but not least, for “Outstanding performance by a female actor in a supporting role,” we have Jennifer Lawrence from “American Hustle”, Lupita Ngyong’o from “12 Years a Slave,” Julia Roberts from “August: Osage County,” June Squibb from “Nebraska,” and Oprah Winfrey from “Lee Daniels’ The Butler.”
Let’s face it – no one has a chance running against J. Law, not even Queen O. Just when we thought the 23-year-old actress dominating awards season 2014 was nothing but a dream, she came in full force with a film where she basically stole every scene.
