Bette Midler is back! This time, she’s set to star as one of the biggest Hollywood icons in a highly anticipated HBO movie!

It’s confirmed! The Divine Miss M will star as Mae West in a new HBO movie! That’s right!

The flick, which is based on Mae West’s autobiography, ‘Goodness Has Nothing To Do With It,’ already has some of the biggest names signed onto the project! Not only is Harvey Fierstein writing the script, William Friedkin is set to direct and Jerry Weintraub from “Behind the Candelabra” will executive product the film with Bette Midler herself!

We’re so happy for The Divine Miss M, because we think she’s perfect for the role! In case you don’t agree with us just yet, allow us to point out the obvious!

  1. Bette Midler is an AMAZING actress. She was not only nominated for 2 Academy Awards, she won three Grammy Awards, four Golden Globes, three Emmy Awards and a special Tony Award!
  2. Just like Mae West, Bette is a highly successful singer who sold over 30 million albums worldwide! But wait, that’s not all. “The Rose” singer also received 13 Gold, 8 Platinum and 4 Multiplatinum albums by RIAA!
  3. Bette Midler and Mae West both had their fair share of Broadway appearances! For instance, from 1911 to 1961, Mae was in several productions like Diamond Lil, Catherine Was Great, The Wicked Age, Sex, A Winsome Widow and A La Broadway. She ultimately became known as one of the biggest sex symbols.
  4. They’re both known for some controversy! Mae West definitely struggled with censorship issues, while Bette even admitted to being a forefront of the gay liberation movement. After performing at the Continental Baths, the 68-year-old star became a gay icon in the 1970s.
  5. And last but not least, clearly you see the physical resemblance between the two stars! Comparing this side-by-side pic, they could definitely pass as sisters!
