Alessia Cara, DNCE & More: Rising Stars of 2016

2016 has big musical shoes to fill. From the epic release of Adele’s comeback album to bands such as One Direction saying goodbye, 2015 was a year of musical unpredictability, experimentation, and innovation. We’re constantly on the look for the next rising stars to take reign during the next year. Check out our predictions for 2016:

Alessia Cara

Alessia Cara will no longer have to ask herself what she’s doing here. At only nineteen years old, the singer has produced a worldwide hit song, a debut EP, and even has Taylor Swift on her side. With her smooth voice and likable personality, we predict only good things for her.

Shawn Mendes

2015 was a great year for Shawn Mendes, and we see it only getting better from here. He not only was the opening act for Taylor Swift’s 1989 World Tour (!!!) but released a new album, collaborated with Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabelo and continued his social media fame by having over five million followers. Not to mention, the singer’s down-to-earth personality not only keeps him grounded, but well-respected.

The newest Jonas Brother to break out as a solo artist is Joe Jonas, who formed the band DNCE. Their catchy lyrics, upbeat tunes, and easygoing vibes is the perfect recipe for success, and we’re looking forward to seeing more of them in the near future.

Twenty One Pilots

Twenty One Pilots members Josh Dun and Tyler Joseph are no strangers to fame, but we’re beginning to see them break out of the alternative scene and into mainstream pop culture. Their single titled “Stressed Out” currently ranks as the 4th best-selling song on iTunes, while ranking #13 on the Billboard Top 100 chart. Not too shabby, boys.

5 Seconds of Summer

The Australian boyband continues to gain momentum after the release of their album titled Sounds Good Feels Good. After One Direction announced their hiatus, we predict 5 Seconds of Summer to take the reign on the boyband throne.

Charlie Puth

2015 was the year of the Puth, as his song “See You Again” with Wiz Khalifa stayed at the top of the charts for months. From collaborating with Meghan Trainor for the single titled “Marvin Gaye” to preparing to release his debut album, we see nothing but good things from the twenty-four year old New Jersey native.

Halsey went from being a dreamer from a small town in New Jersey to one of the biggest icons for the millennial generation. Following her release of her album titled Badlands, the singer toured with big-name acts such as The Weeknd, sold out venues such as the Madison Square Garden, and continues to gain a rapid fanbase. Her brutally honest lyrics, natural talent, and desire to take risks make her stand out among the rest.

The 1975

The 1975 have been touring for years and gaining a fiercely loyal fanbase, but we believe 2016 will be the year for The 1975. With their new 80s-inspired sound, over-the-top concert experiences and a love of performing that’s almost contagious, we predict that 2016 will be a year of enormous success for the British boys. As they prepare to release their second album I Like It When You Sleep For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It in late February, the boys have enjoyed seeing sold-out shows all across the world.
